AssalamuAlaikum. What should an ordinary Muslim do when someone on the internet to gain cheap fame makes content berating Allah and the Rasul ﷺ. Should we answer their “points” or just not give them the attention they clearly do not deserve. This is to mention that I personally never seek out such content but you get exposed to randomly. While there is abject hatred and anger for such people and it feels wrong to give them a single second the filth they are putting out there becomes too much to leave alone. What is your suggestion for the average Muslim.
Bismillahi Ta’ala
Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah
In matters of da’wah, one of the field is refuting the incorrect claims and accusations about Islam. Engaging in them with the intent to establish the rightful truth so that masses do not get misinformed and misdirected is meritorious action.
However, just as in all other field of Da’wah, the intent, the process and the temperament of engagement should be meticulously thought over. If one has himself not done his homework and learning from scholars of the field being engaged in, then chances are that an unprofessional engagement may backfire and cause more harm to the field of Da’wah instead of benefit.
The aim is not to vent out one’s frustration, rather a properly calculated refutation for the general benefit of deen and Islam.
Hence, if one finds that one does not have the temperament and ability to spend time learning the field and its argumentation, spending time online looking through such content is counter productive. There can be other areas of religion which may benefit from one’s efforts to a higher degree.
Allah has kept people of expertise for every field. If one happens to come across such cheap and vile accusations on Islam anywhere, and one is not suited to engage in it, then the most prudent approach would be to inform those experts of the field and let them tackle it as they deem fit, while one should focus on that which will benefit one’s own Islam and Iman greatly.
