RDSP works almost identical to RRSP programs, except that its eligibility is for disability and benefits may materialize after 60 years of age and not 65. Just like RRSP, there are some Self-Directed RDSP that should be adopted to make sure one’s contributions are not invested in non-Shariah Compliant avenues.
As for its treatment of Zakat, it will remain identical to RRSP. Do keep in mind that an individual’s disability does not play a part in him being Shar’an being financially rich or poor. His finances will determine that. So, as long as net zakatable assets are beyond Nisab benchmark, he will have to dispense Zakat.
