I have been looking into buying stocks that provide dividends. I wanted to know does dividends qualify as haram or halal?

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah
Dividends on any stock are the return on investment which are declared from the company. As long as the Shariah Compliance of the company in which the stocks are being purchased, the return on investments will be permissible as well.
