Is doing M&M franchise business (frozen food) halal or haram (in Canada)?
Bismillahi Ta’ala
Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah
Your question is about owning a Store from a franchise store which sells frozen food items (along with other commodities as well).
In principle sale of any item, which is not considered “wealth” according to Shariah, is impermissible. Examples of these items include things like wine, pork and haram food etc. Hence, selling of Pizza and other products containing pork is not permissible and income from such a sale will be impermissible as well. This ruling is regardless of who you sell these products to.
Hence, to adequately earn halal income from your store you will need to make sure all the products which you sell are Halal. We advise you to have negotiations with the franchise owner to allow you to revise the menu for your store in order to reflect only halal entries. If this is not possible, then we advise you to look for an alternative mode of business for yourself.
The above answer is for owning a shop and earning from its sales, and not for an employee working in a store that sells such items.
