Someone was doing wudhu, he put water into his nostrils but sniffed up a bit too much. In his words, i couldn’t breathe and I panicked and i started washing my face and i also drank water.
I then asked him did you know you were drinking the water when you did so? He said: I did but I didn’t at the same time, it was out of panic.

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah
Mistakenly sniffing water and thereafter drinking water in panic invalidates the fast. However, only qadha’ (makeup) becomes wajib and no kaffarah (expiation).
It is recommended that during fast one should not exaggerate in Istinshaq (snorting water) into the nostrils, instead one should casually wash nostrils upto the soft part of the nose.
