1. Is completing a beautician/makeup artist course allowed for muslim females?
2. Is it permissible for Muslim women to teach and run a beautician/make up artist business to provide various make up and skin care services to only muslim or non muslim women?
Bismillahi Ta’ala
Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah
1. As long as none of the Shar’i rules related hijab, intermingling and haya’ within women instructors/pupils are violated, it will be permissible to do a Beautician/Makeup course.
Moreover, such endeavors should be taken with a genuine intent to do only Shar’an acceptable application of such courses. If in application of such studies will lead to violation of shar’i rules, then not only one would loose out on barakah in one’s work, but also in one’s income.
2. Yes, as long as all the shar’i rules are kept in check, this will be permissible. Do keep in mind that just as any work, one will need to invest time and energy to understand all the shar’i rules that may affect the work.
For example, a beautician may only use “halal suitable” cosmetics for the work. Similarly, some of the beauty routines may not be shar’an acceptable, such as plucking eyebrows beyond base need etc. At the same time, some skin care routines may require masks which need to be checked for presence of collagen or any other unsuitable ingredients.
For a Muslim Female beautician, it will be part of her religious duty to do her due diligence in learning these matters and make sure to teach the female students the same.
