Assalamualaikum wr Wb mufti sb

  1. For calculating zakat for 22 kt gold, what rate should be used?
  2. The double asterisk shows gold rate to be considered for 24 kt scrap metal, and there’s another rate on top right column. Kindly explain the info graphic a bit for us.
  3. Someone was saying the other day that there’s no such thing as mehr Fatimi. Wanted to know some detail about that too please.

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah,

  1. Only the actual gold content in the different karat gold is zakatable. Since now we can accurately determine the gold content, we will calculate the % of gold content in 22kt to count it for zakat. This has been discussed in our zakat workshop here:

  2. The spot rate in Gold and Silver is used to establish the Zakat Nisaab. This has been explained in my small clip here:

3. It is obvious that mahr was given in the marriage of Sayidatuna Fatima al-Zahra rd. So it is incorrect to say that there is no Mahr al-Fatimi. Nonetheless, This fatwa explains the calculation: https://fatwa.ca/could-you-please-explain-the-procedure-to-determine-the-mahr-for-marriage/ [footnotes 4,5,6 deal with the Mahr al-Fatimi]
