Fast: Sick to the stomach and keeps throwing up

368 viewsRamadanfast fasting ramadan

If someone is sick to the stomach and keeps throwing up, do they need to fast?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

Sickness or illness is a valid excuse for skipping the fast.

Allah says in the Qur’an ” But whoever of you is ill or on a journey, then let them fast an equal number of days after Ramadan” (Surah Baqara, 184)

The illness or sickness should be such that one fears it getting worse due to fast, or where a person have genuine fear that his fast will lead to sickness, then it will be permissible to skip the fast and make a qadha’ (make up) after wards.
