What is the ruling regarding decorating the outside of the house for Ramadan with glittery star and moon-shaped decorations? Is it permissible? Please let me know if such an act is an innovation and is best avoided?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah,

In itself, there is nothing prohibitive in decorating one’s house to express one’s happiness for Ramadhan. So such an activity can be done, to build enthusiasm in children. Maintain an Islamic theme so there is no resemblance with any other nation. At the same time, keep in mind that the activities of Ramadhan are somber in their nature, and they include increasing of worship and Ibadah. So do not limit Ramadhan to only such displays, instead inculcate a steady yet productive environment of worship and servitude towards Allah in your home.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
