Utilizing EI (Employment Insurance) benefits

608 viewsZakatEI Employment Insurance

What’s the ruling on EI (Employment Insurance) after loosing a job? Is it allowed to use EI money till we find a new field job or can we only take till the amount we have contributed.

EI (Employment Insurance), although named as an insurance, is a tax collected by the Government. The government thereafter redistributes this premium collected to assist those employees who lose their job and are not able to find another one.

This assistance from the government is a service rendered to anyone who fulfils the conditions. As such the payout is not connected to your premiums paid. Instead, you have maximum assistance from the government, which follows its own mechanism. Moreover, EI helps other services like finding another job or some level of disability from the job as well.

Thus, being a service provided by the government, it is Shar’an permissible to utilize all EI benefits received.
