Preparing one’s own or a family member’s potential funeral matter beforehand

406 viewsGeneral (Misc)death funeral grave

I have been contemplating death and what will happen after death with my family. In my family discussion it was suggested that we should have a grave secured and prepped beforehand. Is this permissible?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Preparing one’s own or a family member’s potential funeral matter beforehand is permissible. It can help a person remain at ease that they will not be a financial burden on the family.

This type of preparation is provided by some Muslim Funeral Services, and when the time comes, they carry out all the processions as per the intent of the deceased. Shar’an there is no problem with such preparation.

However, it has been experienced as well that some Masjid / Funeral Services provide a monthly subscription, with confirmation that they will secure these services if and when needed. This kind of a setup is Funeral Insurance, and is impermissible.
