Permissible to work as a cashier in stores with haram products?

1.05K viewsGeneral (Misc)cash cashier halal haram

Is it permissible to work as a cashier in a grocery store like No Frills, Walmart.., where pork and some haram products are being sold.

Bismillahi Ta’ala

We have discussed this and similar other questions regarding choosing a job for oneself previously. Please see

to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts. The same will apply to a general cashier at a grocery shop.

It is indeed a sign of Iman that one feels wrong about handling haram items, more so when one feels like one is earning one’s sustenance through such measures. However, the income will be technically halal and permissible if the criteria for job fall under technical permissibility.

This obviously then demands that one see whether such a job is wholesome to partake in or to look for another viable job that may not have the negative aspects within it.
