Is there an Islamic perspective on when to tell children about sex and reproduction?

Is there an Islamic perspective on when to tell children about sex and reproduction? My grade 5 child will be learning this in school now. The school sent a form for parents to decide but I’m not sure what is the right choice.

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

There are two things in the SOGI curriculum; puberty and reproduction. The second does not need to be discussed/addressed until nikah.

As children come of age, they require age-appropriate guidance. I would recommend the Tuhfah books if parents feel comfortable speaking about these topics.

Tuhfatul Banaat

Alternatively, the Islamic Academy of Coventry (UK) has a thorough presentation that imams & muʿallimāt use. Alhamdulillāh we conducted these workshops this past weekend at Masjid al-Falah (ICNA).

IlmHub is also willing to conduct workshops over the summer holidays provided there are enough registrants.
