Are yellow 5 & 6 and Red 40 halal to consume?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah,

Yellow 5
Also called, E102 or Tartrazine
FD&C Yellow 5; C.I. 19140; C.I. Food Yellow 4; C.I. acid yellow 23; hydrazine yellow colouring

The dye is synthetically made from petroleum and is Halaal Suitable.

Yellow 6
E110 also known as Sunset Yellow FCF
C.I. 15985; FD&C Yellow 6; C.I. Food Yellow 3

This dye is also synthetically made from petroleum and is Halaal Suitable.

Red#40
Red 40 also goes by the names Allura Red, Food Red 17, C.I. 16035 and also E129.

Red AC was originally manufactured from coal tar, but is now mostly made from petroleum. Despite the popular misconception, Allura Red AC is not derived from any insect, unlike the food colouring carmine, which is derived from the female cochineal insect.

SANHA (South African National Halal Association) has classified Red 40 as halal and permissible for consumption.
