A couple has decided to get married and nikah is scheduled in July. The groom sent some money to the future bride for Mahr in advance to buy jewelry for marriage. Does the bride own the money and need to do qurbani?
Bismillahi Ta’ala
Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah
At the outset, any mature muslim male/female who is also muqeem and is owner of Nisab (of Zakat) on the day of Eid al Adhaa is mandated to do sacrifice.
Moreover, Mahr given in advance before the enactment of contractual nikah is valid for the proposed girl, and she becomes an owner of it.
If possession of this amount fulfills all her conditions for compulsion of Qurbani, then the bride would need to do her qurbani, even though her Nikah is still to take place after Eid al Adha.
