Do I have to tell my cousin if I am giving zakat money?

584 viewsZakatzakaat zakat

I would like to know if I have to tell my cousin if i am giving zakat money?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

As long as you have done your due diligence to confirm that your cousin is genuine recipient for zakat, you do not need to inform them that the money you are giving them is for zakat purposes.

You will maintain your intent of dispensing zakat while giving. You may inform them that it is hadiya (gift). Insha’Allah you shall receive double the rewards for dispensing within your family; one for maintaining ties, and one for dispensing zakat.
