Adhan and Iqamah for a newborn

635 viewsGeneral (Misc)adhan azan iqama iqamah newborn

What is the ruling regarding saying adhan and iqamah to a newborn?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Calling out the Adhan in the ear of a newborn baby is a Sunnah. Nabi ﷺ himself called out the Adhan in the ear of Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali rd. (Tirmidhi, Mishkaat)

Similarly, other narrations mention saying Takbeer, or Iqamah in the left ear of the child. The action has been adopted by the pious generation as sunnah. Sayyiduna Umar ibn Abdul Aziz rd. used to call out the Adhan in the right ear of a new born and Iqamah in the left ear. (Sharh al-Sunnah)
