Keeping fast with double intention – regular and shawwal fast

543 viewsShawwalfast fasting shawwal fasts

Is it permissible to fast with double intention, with one intention being to fast the six recommended fasts of Shawwal, and the other intention being to make up previously missed Ramadan fasts?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah.

Due to Ramadhan last asharah, I have not answered many questions.

Please go through this presentation, especially the QnA. If I remember correctly we discussed a couple of these answers.

While it is permissible to combine such an intention between the Qadha’ Fast and the Shawwal fasts, it is encouraged to keep them separately to gain most rewards. However, if a person is old or sick and cannot make too many fasts, they may combine the intention to fulfil both.
