Is It Permissible for Muslims to Eat Food Distributed During Non-Muslim Festivals Like Diwali and Halloween?

55 viewsGeneral (Misc)diwali halal halloween haram islam

Assalam alaykum shaykh, they distributed Diwali-themed chocolate in the office today (to celebrate Diwali). Are we allowed to eat this?

Or anything of the like, for e.g., when the same happens at Halloween etc.?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah,

By default any emulation of non Muslims, in all types of celebrations of Halloween are impermissible. This includes giving out candies on the day.

On technical level, if your casual mannerism is to distribute candies to the kids, and people know you as such, then there would remain no perception that you are giving candy out with the celebration of halloween in mind.

Although, personally, if that is one’s mannerism to hand out candies all year around, then leaving it out on Halloween would not harm one’s desires and would actually be preferable as we have to been commanded to do oppose the emulation of non muslims in all such matters.

This same ruling applies to dewali as well.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
