Sending zakat al-fitr (Sadaqa al-Fitr) back home

Can we send Fitrana amount to back home to give to poor one family only?

Yes, one may send Sadaqah al-Fitr back home as well. However, once should maintain the correct exchange rate for this.

Let’s assume one wants to send $28 (2 people minimum) to Pakistan from Canada. So that which becomes Wajib upon him is $28 as per his local rate of Sadaqah al-Fitr. If he is sending this money via some service such as Western Union, who exchange it at spot rate, then the dispenser must make sure that the recipient receives the equivalent of $28. Thereafter, the fee for Western Union will have to be paid additional. If the receiver gets this exchanged money at a later stage, the Zakat al-Fitr will be dispensed.

If the money is physically sent with someone, then the total amount sent should equal $28. The receiver in Pakistan will get it exchanged on his own accord at his own rates, but $28 would be dispensed from the dispenser’s side.
