Is it permissible to hang the ayaats of the Quran on walls?

495 viewsGeneral (Misc)ayaats quran

I had a question regarding hanging the ayaats of the Quran on our walls. Is this permissible or is it disrespecting the Quran?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah,

It is generally advised to refrain from writing Quranic verses or hanging decorative plaques with Quranic verses on walls due to the possibility of violating its sanctity and dishonoring it in this manner.

For this reason, scholars have deemed hanging Quranic verses on the walls as disliked (Makruh), as the wall might crumble or the decorative plaques fall off the wall, or the paint may peel off if the verses are directly written on the wall. Additionally, there is a possibility of committing an act of sin in the presence of Quranic verses, all of which can detract from their holiness and respect.

Instead, one should focus on reciting the Quran for blessings and reflecting upon its meanings as a more appropriate way to honor it.

Given this, if there is a need to display the verses as a reminder for recitation or memorizing it, it is extremely important to ensure that they are protected from any form of disrespect.
