Can product labelled ‘vegan’ be consumed?

339 viewsGeneral (Misc)halal halal food haram vegan

If a product has the word/label “vegan” on it, can we consume it without looking into its ingredients?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

Generally vegan label helps us with gaining considerable certainty that the product is free from any animal by products or enzymes in its preparation. This is very useful to filter the product for their Halal Suitability.

However, that does not mean that such a product is automatically Halal Suitable. Veganism considers wine and alcohols to be acceptable. Hence if the product contains wines or alcohols as active ingredients (excluding the use of solvents which are non-khamr and not used for their direct active alcoholic needs) then such a product will NOT be halal suitable.
