Ruling for pregnant women during ramadan

568 viewsRamadanfast fasting pregnant ramadan

What is the ruling for pregnant women during ramadan? Should they leave fasts and cover after the delivery? She’s been feeling weak during the last hours of her fast, so wanted to check with you

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

A pregnant woman should make an assessment about her fasting. If the strain leaves her weak such that she fears her health or the health of the baby will be negatively affected, then it will be permissible for her to skip her fasts, and make a qadha’ after Ramadhan in a spaced out days such that continuous fasting is not strenuous.

If she is not even able to fast in spaced out days, then she may postpone the fasts until after giving birth.

In all cases, she should always have consultation with a Allah fearing, upright Muslim doctor for such matters.
