Are BAILEYS from Tim Hortons Halal or no?

3.32K viewsGeneral (Misc)alcohol baileys halal haram non-alcohol

Tim Hortons has a new menu about Baileys. Baileys seems to be some alcohol. Could you please confirm if we can buy these items or not?

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

Tim Hortons has announced that “non-alcoholic Baileys beverages” will be served by them. The beverages may be non-alcoholic, but the baileys cream used is alcohol derived.

It is derived from Irish whiskey, which is derived from barley, wheat, and corn. Since the sources of this alcohol is non-khamr (i.e. it is not derived from grapes, dates and raisins), baileys cream is in itself halal and the beverages sold at Tim Hortons mixed with baileys will be considered halal as well.

However, it would still be makruh to drink such beverages since one would be taking enjoyment of a product primarily because of its connection to haram alcohol. Moreover, such use will be promoting baileys, which is a brand of alcohol.
