Clarification on reciting kalma tayyaba so many times

483 viewsDecember 11, 2023General (Misc)kalma tayyaba recitation recite reciting

I’ve heard that the kalma tayyaba shouldn’t be recited too many times, such as 100 or 200 times, because it is strong and doesn’t suit everyone, and can affect mental health. Please clarify this for me.

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah

Some Mashayekh look for the ta’theer (affects) of reciting one dhikr or tasbeeh abundantly and the effect it draws upon the dhakir. It is from this perspective some mention that Tahleel (Laa ilaha illa Allah) has a warm and dominating effect that can lead to change in a person’s temperament.

To balance this it is recommended to couple the dhikr of tahleel with Salaat wa Salam upon Rasulullah ﷺ. The full kalima hence includes the “Muhammad Rasulullah”. So, if one wishes to recite a tasbeeh of Kalima after every salah, or at any time, then one can recite “Laa ilaha illa Allah” x 15 or 20 followed by “Muhammad Rasulullah” and “ﷺ” with it. This addition of durood/salam upon Rasulullah has calming ta’theer (affect) upon oneself.

It is also hence one of the prescription to recite Durood/Salam when one gets angry to subside the anger and calm oneself down.
